The Graduate School
The Graduate School is where Duke realizes its fundamental mission of educating future teachers, scholars, researchers, and professional leaders, and of developing new fields of knowledge and research. Graduates of its nearly sixty programs bring distinction to Duke as they bring innovation to the world.
The Graduate School oversees all Ph.D. and nonprofessional master's degree training in Arts & Sciences and in Duke's professional schools: the Divinity School, The Fuqua School of Business, the Nicholas School of the Environment and Earth Sciences, the Pratt School of Engineering, the School of Law, the School of Nursing, and the School of Medicine.
About 75 percent of students in the Graduate School are in Ph.D. programs. These doctoral candidates are a critical link between Duke's research and teaching efforts, serving as colleagues to the faculty and mentors to undergraduates.
Our Students
Thirty-eight percent of our students are international, 10 percent are ethnic or racial minorities.
The Office of Graduate Student Affairs(GSA) provides programs on health, safety, housing, mentoring, and professional development, and addresses the needs of students from different ethnic backgrounds, international students, gay and lesbian students, students with disabilities, women, and other groups.
Kamesh Munagala, assistant professor of Computer Science, discusses work with graduate student Sayan Bhattacharya and CSURF Undergraduate Research Fellow Peng Shi.
