The ceremony for formally welcoming new students to Duke is convocation. Convocation for undergraduates takes place 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 19, in Duke Chapel, with addresses by President Richard H. Brodhead and Steve Nowicki, dean of undergraduate education.
Convocation for graduate students will be in the chapel at 4 p.m. the same day, with Brodhead and Divinity School dean Gregory Jones speaking.
The undergraduate convocation will be broadcast live online on Duke's Ustream

No course may be added after this date, nor may any changes be made involving Pass/Fail grading or audit status in a course. Between this date and November 6, student may withdraw from a course with permission from their respective academic dean only if they are carrying a course overload or for other compelling reasons. A grade of W will be assigned if the course withdrawal is approved.
