Zika, ebola, dengue – the list of emerging infectious diseases grows every year. Other neglected tropical diseases trap one sixth of the world’s population in a vicious cycle of poverty and neglect. The purpose of this course is to survey these infections in the biological and the broader societal contexts, and to analyze some of their social and ethical impacts. in the biological and the broader societal contexts, and to analyze some of their social and ethical implications. Opportunities will be provided to engage in tropical disease advocacy on a national and international level.
