Office of Student Returns
Administrative Withdrawal: Non-FinancialLast updated: June 30, 2013
Students returning from an involuntary administrative withdrawal may apply to return to Duke in accordance with the time stipulation and other unique criteria as stated in their official separation letter.
A student formerly who wishes to return from an involuntary administrative withdrawal must complete the readmission application and return it (along with all other requested documents) to the Office of Student Returns. If the involuntary administrative withdrawal was influenced by a health concern, the student should complete the medical forms that are included in the return packet as well. If the involuntary administrative withdrawal was the result of misconduct and the disciplinary case has not been resolved, the student is not eligible to apply to return to Duke.
After all readmission materials have been received, the candidate’s completed application packet will be routed to their review committee. A recommendation will be made by their review committee to the Director of Student Returns, who will then inform the candidate of the decision on the application. If the candidate is readmitted, he or she will be returned to active status. Students are advised to carefully follow the Checklist for Returning Students.
Return Application Deadlines
Students should determine their targeted return term and plan a submission accordingly. An earlier application will not be accepted and does not benefit you since it is important for the application to be as up-to-date as possible. It is the student's responsibility to make sure the application is complete by the deadline date. Letters of recommendation and other supporting documents from respective individuals should be requested in a timely manner. ONLY COMPLETE applications will be reviewed. Applications are reviewed as expeditiously as possible. There are three review cycles per year with distinct deadlines.
