ATHLETICS AND RECREATION

Duke has Division I varsity teams in 12 women's sports and 12 men's sports. Duke has won national championships in men's basketball, women's tennis, men's soccer, and women's golf, and produced such standouts at Sonny Jurgensen T'57 (football), Rebecca Ward T'12 (fencing), Dave Sime T'58 (track), Nancy Hogshead T'86 (swimming), and Grant Hill T'94 (basketball).

Sports clubs are organized and managed by students in 34 sports, including  badminton, martial arts, and ultimate.

Intramural leagues field many different teams in softball, football, volleyball, soccer (indoor, outdoor, and 6-a-side), tennis, basketball, and dodgeball.
