John Blackshear serves as the dean of academic affairs of Trinity College of Arts & Sciences and associate vice provost for undergraduate education. He is responsible for the administrative and financial management of the college; the curricular and instructional programs, including the Academic Deans, the Thompson Writing Program, the Office of Continuing Studies, the Office of Undergraduate Research Support, and the Office of Assessment for Trinity College.

Blackshear also serves an Academic Dean in the College of Arts & Sciences, an adjunct instructor of psychology & neuroscience and the Director for Duke SPIRE Fellows, a university STEM retention program. He serves as an academic advisor to undeclared students and for psychology majors, as well as Faculty-in-Residence in Trinity House on East Campus. Previously, he served as a psychologist at Duke’s Counseling and Psychological Services, Clinical Director at the Academic Resource Center and Duke University Student Ombudsman.

He holds Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in psychology from Florida A&M University. He completed his doctorate in clinical psychology from Georgia State University and is currently licensed to practice in the state of North Carolina.
