John H. Blackshear
Senior Associate Dean for Academic Planning
John H. Blackshear serves as senior associate dean for academic planning, Trinity College of Arts and Sciences, Duke University. In this role, he serves as a member of the Trinity College of Arts & Sciences' senior leadership team providing oversight to academic planning, programmatic development, and institutional proposal development.
Blackshear also serves an Academic Dean in the College of Arts & Sciences, an adjunct instructor of psychology & neuroscience and the Director for Duke SPIRE Fellows, a university STEM retention program. He serves as an academic advisor to undeclared students and for psychology majors, as well as Faculty-in-Residence in Trinity House on East Campus. Previously, he served as a psychologist at Duke’s Counseling and Psychological Services, Clinical Director at the Academic Resource Center and Duke University Student Ombudsman.
He holds Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in psychology from Florida A&M University. He completed his doctorate in clinical psychology from Georgia State University and is currently licensed to practice in the state of North Carolina.
