Class of 2025
Majors in Dance and Neuroscience
My name is Antonio Marrujo, and I am a student at Duke University from Albuquerque, New Mexico. I grew up playing piano, which led me into other performing arts including Jazz Band, Theater, and most importantly, Dance- the art which I fell in love with and plan to pursue for the rest of my life. I currently am a part of two student-led dance groups called Defining Movement (DefMo) and Street Medicine (Streetmed), and possibly interested in auditioning for more. This upcoming school year, I intend to pursue more research in the neuroscience field, intending to find more intersections between dance/performing arts and neuroscience. More specifically, I am interested in studying psychoactive drugs and their abilities to treat mental health conditions and to produce altered states of consciousness, much similar to those induced my dancing.
Favorite Class: My favorite class at Duke was Dancing States of Mind, which was taught by Michael Klien. I liked this class a lot because it made me question my previous notions of dance and the current systems solidified in the Western world.
