Originally from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, I was raised in Durham almost all of my life. At Duke, I am a B.N. Duke Scholar, chair of Education and Outreach for Duke Africa, an executive board member for DukeDESTA and I work as a research assistant at the Samuel DuBois Cook Center for Social Equity. Outside of Duke, I work with organizations including Durham's Office on Youth, Reintegration Support Network (RSNNC) and I recently completed the Gerald Gill Fellowship at Tufts University. My interests include southern community organizing, imperialist and colonial history, as well as museum and curatorial work.
