Hi! My name is Cate Knothe and I am a senior studying VMS Cinematic Arts and German. During my time at Duke, I have been a part of Duke Independent Film Festival as the marketing director and Flicks Magazine editor. I also studied abroad my entire junior year at a film institute in Prague in the fall and Duke in Berlin in the spring. In the future, I hope to become an environmental documentary filmmaker. For now, in my free time, I love to bake, paddleboard, backpack, and read (especially high fantasy or Charles Dickens).

Favorite Class: My favorite class at Duke was Documenting the Middle East with Nancy Kalow. I took this course freshman year and after learning the power of storytelling—especially through oral history and documentary work—I knew I wanted to become a filmmaker.
