This course is designed to present a comprehensive overview of curriculum for the elementary school. Students critically examine traditional and innovative curriculum models using questions such as: What are the aims/purposes of the curriculum? What core knowledge should be central to the curriculum? What is the teacher's role in curriculum development? How should curriculum be organized and taught? How can the curriculum meet the diversity of needs of all elementary school students? To enhance the content of the course, students will design an integrated, concept-based curriculum unit for the elementary classroom, with a special focus on technology integration and differentiated instruction.
