On May 12–16, 2025, Duke Computer Science hosted 30 Ph.D. students from across the country for a week of learning, brainstorming and networking at the Duke & Chen Institute Joint Boot Camp for AI & AI-Accelerated Medical Research. Made possible with generous support from the Tianqiao and Chrissy Chen Institute, the intensive program prepared research-ready Ph.D. students and postdocs to understand the latest advances in AI technology and its impact on medicine and healthcare.
The weeklong boot camp combined short courses and brainstorming sessions with some of the world’s leading experts in the field of AI-Accelerated Medical Research. Participants explored emerging research directions and collaborated in small groups, building a strong foundation for future research at the forefront of AI-driven medical innovation.
Between sessions and over shared meals, students also had ample opportunities to connect with peers and invited speakers, fostering both professional networks and new research ideas.
