Money Heist: Societal Impacts of Popular TV and Film

Money Heist, a critically acclaimed Spanish TV drama series, has brought over 65 million new subscribers to Netflix and received many awards including an Emmy for best drama series. After receiving global attention, symbols from the show appeared in soccer stadiums, actual robberies and attacks, Rio Carnival, and even political protests. This course will explore the many complex implications and impacts of the show (both positive and negative) and reasons for the show’s great success. Students will also explore another television series that has made a significant cultural impact.
