Poetry and Art as Healing

HOUSECS 59.19

Fall 2021

Meeting details TBA

This course explores poetry and literature as forms of healing, care, love, and liberation. Our course will be framed by reading, writing, music, art, and otherwise possibilities. We view these as essential ways of communion and collectivity in a world that is punitive and oppressive for those racialized, gendered, and sexualized as different. We seek to connect liberation of the self to liberation of the world. We will have in class writing prompts and art activities. Potential authors and poets we will read include: Ocean Vuong, Ashon Crawley, Claudia Rankine, Camonghne Felix, Cathy Park Hong, James Baldwin, Faiz Ahmad Faiz, Kamala Das, Federico Garcia Lorca, Sylvia Plath, and Audre Lorde.
