I grew up in Evanston, Illinois. After graduating from high school, I joined the U.S. Army and served three years. I then attended Oakwood University where I received a B.A. degree in Religion. I taught English for three years in Japan. I received my master’s degree in Educational Administration from Fayetteville State University and a doctorate in Educational Administration from the University of Akron where I worked for eleven years. I have lived in Durham for many years with my wife. I am an ordained minister and served as a volunteer in Chaplain Services at Duke Hospital for over 20 years.
