Class of 2027
Majors in Economics and Religious Studies, Minor in Cinematic Arts
Hey everyone! My name is Brandt, and I'm double-majoring in Religious Studies and Economics with a minor in Cinematic Arts. As an international student from China, I love exploring different cultures and societies from multiple perspectives, with religious studies offering one of the most meaningful lenses. On campus, I work at Duke Chapel as a multimedia production intern and am involved in the Duke LIFE community as well as the Duke Moot Court Club. In my free time, I enjoy watching films, traveling, playing soccer and frisbee, and discovering new restaurants. Looking ahead, I plan to attend law school and pursue a career in law.
Favorite Class: So far, my favorite class at Duke has been Knowledge of the Other: Asian Religion in Film (Religion 318). I was deeply fascinated by the way it examined how Orientalism and Colonialism have historically distorted perceptions of Asian religions and how the “othering” of cultures and faith traditions can manifest in both explicit and subtle ways. This class certainly reshaped a major part of my worldview and affirmed my belief that the study of religion provides invaluable insights into understanding diverse cultures and societies.
