Major in Program II -- Global Children's Health: Disparities in the US and Africa
Hello! My name is Angela, and I am a Program II pre-med student entering my senior year. Specifically, I'm studying "Global Children's Health: Disparities in the US and Africa," which combines disciplines such as global health, public policy, and African & African American Studies to address the strengths and weaknesses of health outcomes in children in the United States and in African countries. On campus, you may find me engaging with fellow Cardeas in the Cardea Fellowship Program, my campus ministry, Cru, as a Student Leader, or out and about as a volunteer in the Duke University Hospital. Off campus, you may find me in the classroom tutoring and assisting teachers ranging from Pre-K to middle school. In the future, I'd like to incorporate health policy and global health advocacy work into my career as a physician. If any of that interests you, feel free to reach out!
Favorite Class: Probably "War and Public Health in Africa" taught by Dr. Stephen Smith. It was the first global health class I took that sparked an area of interest that crossed topics of international conflict and policy issues, while addressing the impact it had on the health of everyday Africans. This class helps further my interest in pursuing a Program II!
