Class of 2027
Majors in English and International Comparative Studies (concentration in Latin America and the Caribbean)

I'm from River Forest, Illinois double majoring in English and International Comparative Studies with a concentration in Latin America and the Caribbean. I am a poet who believes in the power of human connection that stems from writing and sharing our stories. I deeply value all art forms, as I also do music, dance, photography and painting. I am of Hispanic heritage, my mother being a Mexican immigrant who instilled in me a love of Latin American culture and a calling to protect Dreamers, minorities, and immigrants. I hope to combine my passion for literature and writing in both Spanish and English to make change in the immigration system.

Favorite Class: My favorite class at Duke thus far is an ICS class called Critical Approaches to Global Issues taught by Dr. Namakkal, in which we examined topics such as colonization and decolonization, (im)migration, and social and economic extractivism through a non-Western lens, therefore enabling us to connect these issues that have existed for centuries to what is occurring in the world of today.
