Class of 2028
Major in Art History (Concentration in Architecture), Minors in French and Visual Art
“Ars longa vita brevis” meaning "Art is long, life is short" is a motto I often return to as someone deeply interested in art. I believe that learning about the history and stories behind art allows me to think critically and visually about how culture at the time influenced such designs.
My name is Valika Trivisvavet and I'm from Bangkok, Thailand. I am intending to major in Art History with a concentration in Architecture and minor in French and Visual Art. I’ve always been interested in art. On campus, I had the opportunity to assist Professor Salvatella de Prada on her project BIOTA, which allowed me to appreciate how art can serve as a medium to translate complex messages into creative and accessible forms.
Favorite Class: One of my favorite classes so far at Duke would be Modern & Global India, a History class which is cross-listed as an Art History class. What fascinated me most was how art is imbued into culture and vice versa. The course not only expanded my knowledge of the history of India but also highlighted the importance of visual expression as a form of cultural storytelling.
