For a little more than three decades, Bradley Simmons has taught classes in the Department of Music in West African and Afro-Cuban music and history at Duke University.
Simmons says his djembe classes are typically small. But that does not diminish the instrument’s power. The musical instrument will take center stage at public Kwanzaa celebrations throughout the Triangle.
Following two years of work by the Trinity Curriculum Development Committee, the Arts & Sciences Council adopted a new curriculum that will take effect in Fall 2025. The A&S curriculum governs much of undergraduate education at Duke and the changes will speak to the interests and needs of our students in the coming decades.
