This course will examine the possibilities of human space travel and long-term habitation of Mars. We will examine the technological barriers and potential engineering solutions to this as well as the implications of becoming a multi-planetary species. The class will broadly integrate topics such as: engineering, history, policy, and environmentalism. The class structure will revolve around discussions based on short lectures as well as a variety of guest speakers, videos, movies, and readings.
